The Hunt for Reds in October
Background
The Louisiana Invitational was started to build friendships and communication between dedicated redfish fly fisherman and guides. With excellent fishing extending from the Chandeleur’s to the Sabine River and hundreds of boat ramps – we are scattered, and our fishing and guide contacts tend to be limited to waves at the ramp or on the water.
In addition to providing a format for competition, the goal is to build some “espirit de corp” by celebrating catching giant redfish on the fly, snapping a picture and setting them free, then having some great food and drink.
Camaraderie and team spirit is needed to protect our wetlands and redfish. Our beneficiary, The American Saltwater Guides Association, has truly walked the walk to Baton Rouge and helped us change the redfish limits and slot. We need to continue to work together to protect this fantastic game fish.
